Castoro Cellars

Castoro Cellars was founded by the husband and wife team of Niels and Bimmer Udsen in 1983. The winery was named after the Italian translation of Niels’ long-time nickname; “beaver,” prompting the motto “Dam Fine Wine.” From the winery to the tasting room, all who contribute to Castoro wines hold strongly to the belief that high quality wines should be accessible to all consumers.

Our 2009 Estate Pinot Noir from our Blind Faith vineyard is a fine example of that belief. This wine is beautifully balanced in intensity and fruit. The clusters are tiny with small berries which help in creating the intensity of the wine. It is delicate and fruit forward with notes of black cherry, tea and balanced, toasted, slightly smoky oak flavors. A perfect accompaniment to paella!

The Pinot Noir block in this vineyard is planted on radically eastern sloping hills in well-drained sedimentary soil. The aroma and flavor profile of our Blind Faith Vineyard Pinot Noir is unique to this growing location. Since 1999 this vineyard has been producing fruit that our winemaking team turns into award winning wines. Our 2009 vintage is no exception as it won a Gold Medal at the recent San Francisco Chronicle 2011 Wine Competition.

We welcome you to visit our Mediterranean style tasting room among the vines at 1315 N. Bethel Road in Templeton. From 101 to Hwy 46 West, go 1.2 miles to Bethel Road. Open daily from 10 am to 5:30 pm.
